Early morning temperatures were about 25° above normal for this time of year. They generally ranged from the mid 40s to the lower 50s, although a few of the valley locations across northwest Massachusetts and southwest New Hampshire were in the 30s. Mostly cloudy skies are on tap today, although there may be a few peaks of sunshine this morning. A low pressure system lifting towards the Great Lakes will allow for scattered rain showers to develop. The rain showers are expected to become more numerous as we get later in the afternoon. The rain showers may produce very brief heavy rain. Despite the clouds and rain showers, high temperatures are expected to climb well into the 50s with lower 60s possible along the Boston to Providence corridor. Rain showers may become more scattered late tonight, particularly south of the Massachusetts turnpike as a warm front lifts north of the region. However, any showers will still be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall. Low temperatures should range from the mid to upper 40s across the high terrain, to between 50 and 55 elsewhere and temperatures will even rise toward morning. These overnight lows are about 30° above normal for early January. Rain showers should come to an end by early Saturday afternoon. Skies should remain mostly cloudy, but a few peaks of sun are expected. Record breaking high temperatures are expected as the mercury should soar well into the 60s. It should also be a breezy day as southwest winds gust between 20 and 25 mph. A Pacific cold front will move through the region Saturday night, with perhaps an isolated shower or two. Although it will turn cooler, temperatures will remain significantly above normal for this time of year. Lows should fall into the low to mid 40s, with some upper 30s in the colder outlying areas. Partly to mostly sunny skies are expected on Sunday. Highs should top out mainly between 50 and 55, with readings a few degrees cooler across the higher terrain. A fast moving storm system will bring rain to the region late Sunday night and Monday morning. There is a chance that the rain may begin as a very brief period of wet snow across far northwest Massachusetts and southwest New Hampshire. However, even if this happens it would quickly change to rain as warmer air rapidly moves into the region. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The weather reported was fog.
