It was a mild start to the day with temperatures in the 50s and lower 60s. Clouds will give way to sunshine today for much of the region, except for the south coast where low clouds and fog will prevail. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to arrive in the Connecticut valley around mid afternoon, then make their way to the coast by early this evening, as low pressure heads east from the Great Lakes. Highs will range from the 60s on Cape Cod and the islands to the 70s elsewhere. A few locations may reach 80. Showers and thunderstorms will continue tonight, as the low heads across northern New York. It will be another mild night with lows around 60. Areas of dense fog are likely near the south coast. The low is expected to drop south through New England on Saturday. It will bring another round of showers and thunderstorms to the region. Highs will once again range from the 60s on Cape Cod and the islands to the 70s elsewhere, but a few spots may reach 80.
