Winds were light and variable, and this allowed patchy fog to form, mainly in the colder valleys of northern New Hampshire and nearby western Maine. At 300 am, temperatures ranged from a low of 40° at Berlin New Hampshire to a high of 62° at Manchester New Hampshire. Morning sunshine will become filtered by cloudiness as a low pressure system over the Great Lakes approaches northern New England. Scattered showers late this morning will become more numerous this afternoon. Thunderstorms this afternoon could produce small hail and perhaps gusty winds as they move through. Highs today will average above normal for late may, with many locations away from the coast topping out in the 70s to near 80°. The low pressure system will slowly cross Maine and New Hampshire during the overnight hours into early Saturday morning. The showers will become more of a steady rain, especially across southern New Hampshire and southwest Maine. With clouds and rain, lows tonight will average in the 40s and 50s, along with light winds. The low pressure system will make in to the coast of Maine Saturday. Closer to the coast, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible, while further inland dry conditions are expected. Winds will become onshore near the coast, keeping those locations cooler. Elsewhere, highs Saturday will average close to normal for the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend. Skies will finally start clearing Saturday night as high pressure builds across northern New England from the midwest. If the winds drop off early enough, a few locations in the mountains could be frosty early Sunday morning. High pressure will ensure that Sunday will be the best day of the long weekend, with sunshine and seasonably warm temperatures. A cold front dropping south from northern Maine will bring more in the way of clouds and scattered showers for Memorial Day. The best chance of showers will be across the north and in the mountains, while portions of southeast New Hampshire and southwest should remain rainfree. === The weather observed at WHITEFIELD, NH at 08:52 AM EDT was: === The skies were cloudy.
