Rain showers dotted portions of western Maine and northern New Hampshire during the overnight, with rainfall amounts generally less than one- quarter of an inch. Drizzle and fog was common near the coast and across the hills of western and central Maine. East to northeast winds average between 10 and 15 mph, with the highest winds near the coast. The combination of clouds and an the onshore winds kept temperatures fairly uniform overnight. At 400 am, temperatures ranged from a low of 47° at Frenchville Maine to a high of 57° at Bangor Maine. The weather pattern that brought the rain for the second half of Tuesday and Wednesday will remain in place today. Low pressure south of the southern New England coast will keep winds onshore and temperatures generally in the 50s for highs. Scattered showers can be expected, with the best chance of rain across western Maine. The low pressure system responsible for the rain will continue to weaken and move away tonight. However, another low pressure system will approach from the Ohio valley later tonight, keeping clouds in place. Shower activity should be kept to a minimum tonight, but drizzle and fog, along with the persistent onshore flow, will make lows in the 40s seem even chillier. High pressure over the Canadian Maritimes will build south Friday, and try to bring drier conditions into eastern Maine. At the same time, the low pressure system over the Ohio valley will spread rain across New Hampshire and western Maine. The battle of weather system will result in mainly dry conditions across eastern Maine and mainly rainy conditions across western Maine and New Hampshire Friday and Friday night. The rain may be heavy for a time Friday night across southern New Hampshire and extreme southwest Maine. Meanwhile, improving conditions can be expected across the eastern half of Maine. This trend will continue into the upcoming weekend, with more in the way of sunshine and warmer conditions across central and eastern Maine, and cloudy skies and periodic rain across western Maine and New Hampshire. === The weather observed at WHITEFIELD, NH at 10:52 AM EDT was: === The skies were cloudy.
