Record cold likely this weekend across portions of southern New England.
Strong low pressure north of Newfoundland combined with high pressure over
Ontario, will funnel unusually frigid air southward into New England today and
into at least Saturday. In addition, a gusty northwest wind today, followed by
a brisk northerly wind Friday and Saturday, will generate bitterly cold wind
chills through Saturday. By later Sunday, the Canadian high will slip
southward to the mid Atlantic states. Warmer air aloft will begin to
overspread the region, yielding a period of snow Sunday night into Monday,
along with some accumulations possible. Temperatures Monday may approach the
freezing mark, however it will be short lived as another surge of cold air
arrives in the northeast Tuesday or Wednesday.
