The storm that brought flooding rains to the gulf states, will move northeast today, passing across northern New England Sunday. This will bring 1 to 2" of rain to our region. Much of this rain will be absorbed into the snow, with some flooding of poor drainage areas possibly late today and early tonight. The major rivers and streams are not expected to see much runoff from this, thus river flooding is not expected. Because temperatures will be in the 30s, the valleys could hold on to the cold air long enough to create a longer period of icing. This icing will cause slippery travel on untreated surfaces, and possibly some downed limbs causing scattered power outages. These conditions should be confined to the far northwest corner of Massachusetts, and southern New Hampshire. Other portions of inland southern New England will also see a period of freezing rain. However temperatures in those areas are expected to slowly climb into the mid and upper 30s by afternoon. The rain will end late tonight and on Sunday, with clearing skies expected Sunday night. The clearing skies will be accompanied by blustery winds Sunday afternoon and evening. More cloudiness will move over the region Monday as a weak low travels across the area. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were cloudy.
