An area of snow showers was moving across the region early this morning. Temperatures at 5 am ranged from the single digits to 12° across southern New Hampshire to the 25 to 30° range along the south coast, Cape Cod and the islands. The snow showers will come to an end by early afternoon, but this will usher in bitterly cold and blustery conditions later today through Wednesday night. The coldest temperatures of the winter season will be recorded both Tuesday and Wednesday nights. These frigid temperatures, combined with northwest winds at 15 to 25 mph to produce wind chill readings between 15 and 25° below zero tonight. Even though skies will be mostly clear, arctic air will continue to spill across New England on Tuesday and Wednesday as high pressure builds to the west of the region. Air temperatures will fall to below zero across most of the area, even in the urban centers of Boston and Providence, on Tuesday night. Only the south coast, Cape Cod and the islands will barely escape subzero readings. Northwest winds will continue, so wind chill values will be even colder, in the 20 to 35 below zero range. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were clear.
