Temperatures at 5 am ranged from the teens in southern New Hampshire and the Connecticut river valley to the 20s across the east, with a reading of 34° on Nantucket. Low pressure east of the Virginia coast will continue to rapidly develop today as it quickly moves offshore. The light snow and snow showers will move across this region this morning, then end over southern New Hampshire and north central Massachusetts around midday. The steadiest snow will fall across southeastern Massachusetts and southern Rhode Island today. Snow will continue all day over Cape Cod and the islands, where between 2 and 4" are possible. North winds will quickly increase this afternoon as well, blowing around the newly fallen snow. Skies will clear over central and western sections, but clouds will linger along the coast tonight. With strong north winds and cold temperatures, snow showers and squalls are likely across Cape Cod and the islands. Temperatures will quickly fall back to below zero across southern New Hampshire, interior sections of central and western Massachusetts as well as the Connecticut valley. Even the urban centers will not escape, with readings dropping to the single digits to 10 above. Only Cape Cod will be relatively warmer, but they will have clouds all night and strong winds off the ocean. Saturday will be a mostly sunny day, but it will be another cold one. There will be a few leftover snow showers on the Cape early in the morning. Clouds will return on Sunday with a chance of snow or snow showers.
