Before the clouds moved in during the early morning hours, temperatures plummeted across north central Massachusetts into southwest New Hampshire. With light winds and a deep snow cover, Keene New Hampshire bottomed out at 11 below zero, and Orange fell to -8 before the clouds arrived. At 5 am, temperatures ranged from 8 below to 6 above across north central Massachusetts into southern New Hampshire, to the mid teens to lower 20s along the coast and on the islands. Mid winter conditions will continue across the region through the weekend with intervals of clouds and below normal temperatures through the weekend as a persistent cold northwest flow remains in place. The clouds across the area this morning will mix with some periods of sun, but skies will average out mostly cloudy today. Highs will struggle to reach the upper teens across areas north of Route 2, ranging to the lower to mid 20s along the south coast. Skies will clear out tonight, but west winds will pick up, making it feel colder out of doors. However, temperatures will not be quite as cold as this morning, with readings bottoming out from near 10 above well inland to the lower 20s on the south coast. High pressure will move south of New England on Thursday, bringing mostly sunny skies but more cold conditions. Once again, highs will struggle to the upper teens well inland to the lower 20s on the south coast. Clouds return Thursday night and Friday as low pressure develops off the mid Atlantic coast. This low will remain well south of the region. However, with cold temperatures and developing onshore winds, snow will develop along the coast from gloucester to Boston, Providence, New Bedford and Cape Cod and the islands late Thursday night into Friday morning, with the best chance of snow on the Cape and islands. The remainder of the region will be mostly cloudy. The outlook for Saturday calls for mostly clear and continued cold conditions. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were clear.
