The coldest air of the season will affect the region through the end of the
week. A persistent northwest flow will usher in reinforcing surges of arctic
air during the next 3 days, bring the region the coldest air of the winter
season. Skies will generally be partly to mostly sunny by day and clear to
partly cloudy at night through Thursday. High temperatures today will struggle
to make more than a few degrees of improvement from daybreak temperatures,
which ranged from the mid to upper 20s along the shore to the mid teens well
inland. A brisk northwest wind this morning will make it feel more like zero
in some locations. Under partly to mostly clear skies tonight, temperatures
will drop into the single numbers, with readings of zero to 10 below likely in
protected interior locations where a deep snow cover exists. Coastal locations
will drop into the low to mid teens. Wednesday will feature partly to mostly
sunny skies with temperatures much like today, generally in the teens to mid
20s.
