Most of the southern New England metropolitan areas chilled into the teens overnight, while early morning temperatures in the 20s held sway across coastal Rhode Island and the Massachusetts south coast. A high pressure area will slip off the southeast United States coast late today, as a weak and rather dry cold front approaches from the Great Lakes region. Scattered clouds will appear today in association with this front. Temperatures today should top out in the 30s across southern New England. Another storm will move across the Great Lakes tonight and help spawn a secondary storm system off the middle Atlantic coast on Monday. The coastal storm will intensify rapidly as it moves toward the Canadian Maritimes during Monday night. Snow should overspread all of southern New England during Monday, picking up in intensity during the afternoon. The evening commute from southern New England cities Monday could be impacted by plowable snow.
