Its associated cold front, was moving through southern New England during the predawn hours. Behind the front, strong west to northwest winds will usher in an arctic airmass across the region this morning. These strong west to northwest winds will average 25 to 35 mph with gusts around 45 mph. In addition, the frigid temperatures will freeze residual moisture from yesterdays heavy rainfall. Icy roadways from black ice can be expected this morning. Despite abundant March sunshine today, temperatures will remain only in the teens and 20s. As arctic high pressure moves into New England tonight, mostly clear skies, light winds and a very dry airmass will allow temperatures to plummet into the single digits. High pressure will drift offshore Tuesday, with winds shifting to the south and southwest. This will transport milder air into the region, with temperatures rebounding into the 30s Tuesday afternoon, and possibly near 50° Wednesday. The milder conditions Wednesday will be accompanied by rain showers, as a cold front approaches the region from the west. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were clear.
