North of this front, a cool northeast wind flow will keep temperatures across the region only in the 40s today, along with overcast skies. A weak wave of low pressure will develop on the front tonight and move toward the region from west to east. Rain will overspread the area later this evening, and continue into the overnight hours. Precipitation will take the form of rain, however across the higher terrain of western Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, temperatures will be cold enough for a combination of freezing rain, sleet and snow overnight. Precipitation will taper off Friday morning, as slightly drier air moves into the region Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, a late season cold dome of high pressure will build over Ontario Friday, transporting unseasonably cold air into our area. A significant area of low pressure is forecast to develop in the Ohio valley later Friday, then move east into New York state and New England Friday night. This will set the stage for the possibility of a significant ice storm across the higher elevations Friday night and early Saturday. Elsewhere, a cold rain is expected. As the low heads offshore Saturday night, improving weather is expected Sunday. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were cloudy.
