Temperatures inland were below freezing, whereas along the south coast and the Cape and islands, temperatures were in the mid 30s to near 40. Northeast winds picked up overnight to 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph, mainly across southeast Massachusetts and southern Rhode Island. Precipitation will taper off this morning as low pressure pulls away continuing its trek northeast. A large dome of high pressure will then build over southeast Canada today and tonight, causing colder air to infiltrate the region. This will set the stage for a potent noreaster to head our way by weeks end. Low pressure will move off the Carolina coast during the day Friday then head northeast. Snow will begin to develop across the region early Friday, but then fall in ernest Friday night. Although interior sections could see significant snowfall amounts during the height of the storm, south coastal regions should be spared as a change to rain is expected. The noreaster will pull away during the day Saturday, but not before dosing the entire region with a bit more snow.
