Precipitation totals for the 6 hour period ending at 1 am ranged from a trace to .01" of water equivalent. Many locations reported no precipitation. The insulating blanket of cloud was holding early morning temperatures in the upper 20s and lower 30s. That is about 10° warmer than readings at the same time Tuesday morning. The polar front has become established from the northern high plains to the Great Lakes, and east to the Atlantic coast south of New England. Steering currents in the upper atmosphere will be generally west to east through the next several days. Low pressure centers will move east along the front, driven by those steering currents. Periods of precipitation will alternate with intervals of fair weather as the lows move east, generally passing south of the region. Conditions in the atmosphere which determine precipitation type, that is rain versus snow, will be border line. Small variations will govern what form the precipitation takes. As a rule expect more snow than rain in the mountains and at night, and for precipitation type to tend more toward rain in the south and in the daytime. === The weather observed at WHITEFIELD, NH at 07:52 AM EST was: === The skies were cloudy.
