Just prior to sunrise, temperatures across most of southern New England were in the upper 40s or lower 50s. Taunton and willimantic were a relatively balmy 53 degrees at 4 am, not at all typical for a february morning. Somewhat cooler temperatures in the lower 40s, but still very mild for this time of year, could be found in southwest New Hampshire. A band of showers, a few briefly heavy, dropped a quarter to a half inch of rain across the region overnight. Today will feature clouds, patchy fog and scattered showers this morning and generally partly sunny skies this afternoon. A few sprinkles are possible this afternoon, especially over the hilly terrain. A very mild day is on tap, with high temperatures expected to range from 55 to 60 degrees across southern New England. The only exception will be along the south coast, where the influence of the cool ocean will cap highs in the lower 50s. Cooler, but not drastically so, temperatures should be expected tonight with lows in the mid to upper 30s. Skies will be partly cloudy tonight. Friday will be partly sunny and still on the mild side, with high temperatures ranging from the mid 40s to near 50. A low pressure system over the eastern Great Lakes this morning will move to the Canadian Maritimes tonight. A weak cold front will move across southern New England this afternoon, followed by another weak cold front on Friday. === ORH Terminal Aerodrome Forecast issued 21-Feb-2002 06:35 EST === 7am: 20008kt 1/4sm Fg Ovc001; Tempo 7-9am: 2sm Br Sct001 Ovc012 9am: 22011kt 5sm Br Ovc012; Tempo 9-11am: 2sm Br Bkn006 11am: 24013kt P6sm Bkn020 3pm: 26012kt P6sm Bkn040
