Early morning temperatures dropped into the teens across most of interior southern New England and in the 20s along the coast and urban centers. A few sheltered locations across southwest New Hampshire and northwest Massachusetts recorded temperatures as low as 5 to 10 above. High pressure will move offshore this morning. A low pressure area over the lower Mississippi valley will race to near the mouth of the Chesapeake bay by evening, and then to a position well southeast of Nantucket late tonight. This system will bring a light to moderate snow event across southeast New England this evening. Sunshine through high clouds this morning will gradually become dimmer as the clouds thicken during the day. Snow will break out across Connecticut and southwest Massachusetts around or a little after 4 pm, and spread to the rest of southern New England by 6 or 7 pm. The heaviest snow will occur this evening across southern Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the islands. The snow will end west to east late tonight, with clearing setting in toward daybreak. Todays high temperatures will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Temperatures will drop into the teens northwest and 20s southeast tonight. Along the coast, a brisk north to northeast wind will prevail. Sunday will feature sunshine, dimmed a little by afternoon high clouds.
