The front was being preceded by locally heavy rain showers, scattered thunderstorms and a gusty south to southwest wind, gusting between 40 and 50 mph in high terrain locations. It was unseasonably mild overnight with temperatures in the 50s, but sharply colder air was heading into western portions of Massachusetts and Connecticut just before daybreak. The front will sweep off the coast by mid morning. It will be followed by rapid clearing, and a strong west wind at speeds of 20 to 30 mph, gusting to 45 mph at times across most of the region. Along the south coast of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including the Cape and islands, the wind will gust to around 50 mph today. Temperatures will fall through the 40s this morning as colder air surges into southern New England. Temperatures across the higher terrain of southwest New Hampshire and the Berkshires will continue to drop through the 30s this afternoon, and into the 20s by sunset. Clear and blustery conditions are in store for tonight with temperatures falling into the teens to mid 20s. Winds will diminish Monday as high pressure moves to the mid Atlantic coast. Bright March sunshine will help to warm temperatures into the upper 30s to mid 40s. === ORH Terminal Aerodrome Forecast issued 10-Mar-2002 07:39 EST === 8am: 30018g30kt P6sm Sct025 Bkn080; Tempo 8-10am: Bkn025 10am: 29022g35kt P6sm Sct040; Tempo 10-5pm: Bkn040 7pm: 28015g30kt P6sm Skc
