Temperatures slipped back into the 20s in southern New England as northerly winds brought cooler air southward. Clear and sunny weather will prevail across the region today. High pressure will pass to the north of Massachusetts and will continue to send cool air southward. Daytime temperature will struggle to reach 40 across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts and will probably remain in the mid 30s from central and western Massachusetts into southern New Hampshire. The clear skies will not last long. The high pressure area will move east tonight as clouds spread back across southern New England from the west. An intensifying low pressure center will move across the eastern Great Lakes late Sunday. Brisk southerly winds will develop over southern New England as the storm deepens. This will keep temperatures mild again on Sunday and Sunday night. Rain will develop Sunday afternoon over most of the area. It may be mixed with some snow at first over northern Connecticut, western sections of Massachusetts, and southern New Hampshire.
